Timeless Landscapes: The Lake District & Scottish Borders

We arrive at our welcoming hotel in time to settle in and enjoy a delicious evening meal, ready to begin our relaxing break in the beautiful north.

This morning we visit the award-winning Lakes Distillery for a guided tour of this working site. After the tour, sample a selection of their vodka, gin and whisky, and browse the shop using your exclusive discount voucher. We then enjoy a scenic drive along Bassenthwaite Lake before arriving in Keswick, where you’ll have free time to explore this charming market town at your own pace.

We begin with a picturesque drive through the Lake District to Ambleside, a delightful town at the head of Lake Windermere. With its quaint stone buildings, historic Bridge House, and inviting cafés and shops, it’s perfect for a leisurely wander. In the afternoon, we travel to Settle and board the renowned Settle to Carlisle Railway for a stunning journey across the dramatic Ribblehead Viaduct, passing through the Yorkshire Dales and North Pennines.

Today we explore the rich Roman heritage of Hadrian’s Wall, joined by an expert guide who brings this fascinating frontier to life. Visit the Roman village of Corbridge, then continue to Vindolanda, one of the most important and best-preserved Roman forts in Britain, with its excellent museum and excavations.

After a hearty breakfast, we depart for home with wonderful memories of the landscapes, history and highlights of this unique holiday.
