NEWTON PARK HOTEL
The Newton Park Hotel, Burton on Trent is a 4-star grand, Italianate-style country manor in eight acres of grounds. This grade ll listed building was the former home of Staffordshire brewer William Worthington.
This morning, we begin our journey towards Burton on Trent, with comfort stops en route.
Today we visit the vibrant and historic city of Lichfield, famous for its three-spired cathedral and profuse Georgian architecture. While here, spend time strolling around the impressive
cathedral, or visit fascinating Dr Erasmus Darwin’s House, which has been transformed into an accredited museum showcasing the breadth of his interests and achievements as a doctor, inventor, and poet. This afternoon will be one of discovering, exploring, and remembering at the compelling National Memorial Arboretum.
We spend the morning visiting one of the area’s hidden gems, the Moira Furnace Museum, where you will get an insight into iron making and social history. This afternoon, we will be able to enjoy the Marston’s Brewery Tour, which offers an informative and upbeat tour of what is described as a “cathedral of brewing”. We will then head back towards the hotel,
with a stop at Burton upon Trent where you have free time to explore this beautiful market town.
This morning takes us to picturesque Stafford, where you will find an abundance of shops and cafés, as well as the largest timber framed town house in England, now a beautifully preserved museum. We then head to the Shugborough Estate, a Georgian mansion beaming with unusual treasures ready for you to explore. Experience life in the servant’s quarters, as well as the
glamour and royalty in the apartments of Earl Patrick Lichfield. After all this exploration, it’ll be time for a tea and cake in the Park Farm Café or tea-rooms.
After a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, we start our journey home.
