This morning we leave and head to Plymouth for the overnight ferry to Roscoff.

After disembarkation we continue our journey towards Quimper, regarded as the cultural heart of Brittany. The town is known for its cathedral, atmospheric old quarter, and museums but most of all for it has a real Breton culture feeling. Afterwards, we make our way to our hotel.

This morning we make our way to the seaside resort of Bénodet, where we embark on a circular river cruise lasting just over 2 hours along the beautiful Odet River, described as
“the most beautiful river in France” by Winston Churchill! Our journey takes us past wooded landscapes, numerous castles, manor houses and forgotten creeks, while the guided commentary tells us all about the attractions along the way. This afternoon we make our way to Locronan. This exquisite village is named after a revered Irishman who settled here in the Dark Ages, but its legacy stems from its later trade as a centre for sail-making, which brought the village prosperity and exceptional architecture. The village is full of history and has many little boutiques to explore.

This morning we visit Vannes, one of Brittany’s most important and picturesque towns. With its charming half-timbered houses, Vannes dates from the 16th century and its old town is a
pleasure to explore, with something new to admire around every corner. In the afternoon we visit the pretty ‘village of artists’ and historical port town of Pont-Aven. Historic watermills along the banks of the River Aven provide a scenic backdrop to the town that is also famous as an artists’ retreat and for the invention in 1920 of galettes (butter biscuits).

Free Day - Concarneau has it all, as well as being France’s third most important fishing port, it also has other assets that make it a very popular summer resort. The main draw is the quaint walled town filled with shops and restaurants. Not forgetting the lovely sandy beaches, this will be just perfect for a relaxing day.

Sadly, it’s time to bid au revoir to Brittany and make our way to catch the ferry from Roscoff back to Plymouth. We will continue the final part of the journey towards home, with comfort stops en route.
